Full Description
A small group of quarries are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs to the south of Lawford Sheard Gate, Povington Hill (1-2). They are partially marked on the OS 1st Edition map. The underlying geology is chalk, they are therefore considered likely to be post medieval chalk pits. The features are still visible as extant earthworks on recent Google Earth imagery; they were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
