Full Description
Three small extractive pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1945-6 in the vicinity of Povington Barrow. One is marked as 'Gravel Pit' on the OS 1st Edition map. The underlying geology is clay and they are considered likely to be post medieval clay or gravel pits (1-2). The features are still visible as low earthworks under scrub on recent Google Earth imagery; they were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
