Site of a probable Bronze Age bowl barrow, recorded as an extant oval-shaped mound by RCHM and also visible as a low circular earthwork on aerial photographs

Full Description

'B'. Oval bowl barrow, 24 feet by 18 feet across and 2 feet high. Disturbed. <2> <4>

'B' SY 61648850. Diameter 13.0m., height 1.0m. no visible ditch. Both barrows are in arable. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. <5>

Site of a possible Bronze Age bowl barrow, one of a group of two barrows situated in this area (MDO3374-5).

Recorded as an extant oval-shaped mound by RCHM <4>, measuring 24ft. by 18ft. and 2ft. high, which has been disturbed.

Also visible as a low earthwork on aerial photographs <7>, although more circular in shape, measuring approximately 13.5 metres in diameter. This site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

Composed of heathland soils on transition of clay with flints to heathland. Visible as a faint swelling very much reduced and spread by ploughing 0.25m high, 17.0m diameter. No visible ditch on NW slope. Several large flints on top. Cultivated. 1/5/D
