Full Description
An irregular, linear trackway or lane opening into a field to the north, visible on aerial photographs dated 2005 over a distance of just over 1 kilometer, east of Pimperne village. The southern part of the monument comprises two parallel ditches some 8-10 metres apart, aligned approximately north east - south west. A short perpendicular spur lane diverging on the west side may originally have led to the existing track continuing Yarde Lane. The main ditches turn abruptly northward (at c ST90980 08581). Further to the north (ST90975 08936) the ditches diverge, opening into a large field: the western ditch continues northwards to within c120 metres of the A354 near Stud House, Pimperne; the eastern ditch turns abruptly eastwards. The monument is undated but was clearly disregarded when the modern enclosed agricultural landscape was established, and could therefore be medieval or earlier.
The feature is visible as cropmarks on Google Earth 2005 imagery [2] and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM Project.
