Monument record MDO3764 - Round barrow west of The Folly, Durweston

Around 1860 this barrow was excavated by J H Austen. It contained a central primary (?) inhumation surrounded by 'a walling of large flints', and an empty cist at a higher level.

ST 842082 "Barrows, two, W. of the Folly were opened by J.H.Austen about 1860, but there is now no trace of them. One contained a central (? primary) inhumation surrounded by 'a walling of large flints,' and an empty cist at a higher level; the other, a very small mound, contained only an empty cist, cut 4ft into the natural chalk." <1>
