Full Description

Several units of narrow ridge and furrow are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948 in fields surrounding Marshwood Castle (1). They were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP. They features lie within the field system marked on the OS 1st Edition map, much of which has since been removed but is visible as low earthworks. They are considered to be the remains of 19th century ploughing but a more recent origin is possible. The cultivation marks have since been levelled and are no longer visible on the lastest Google Earth imagery.
