Monument record MDO38339 - Medieval strip lynchets, Quarry Hill, Chideock

The remains of a medieval strip field system are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and lidar imagery on the north side of Quarry Hill. The lynchets form part of a wider system of lynchets that surround the hill and are described in records MDO901 and MDO38337-8. The features were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

SY 433 935. On the North West side of Quarry Hill, is a flight of eight strip lynchets, aligned North-South, of which four are well preserved, two of which are over 400 yards long. <1>

The remains of a medieval strip field system are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs <2> and lidar imagery <3> on the north side of Quarry Hill. The lynchet fragments have been partially fossilized in the modern field boundaries. The features were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP, they form part of a wider system of lynchets that surround the hill and are described in records MDO901 and MDO38337-8.
