Full Description

A curving field boundary to the east of Bettiscombe Manor House is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s (1). The boundary conforms with neighbouring boundaries enclosing a group of fields of probable early medieval or medieval origin. These fields appear to have been later sub-divided during the post medieval period (see MDO38520) but these boundaries were removed prior to the date of the OS First Edition historic mapping. They remain visible on the latest vertical aerial photographs (2) and Google Earth imagery (3). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
