Full Description
Fragments of two curving banked field boundaries on the east side of Cockpit Hill are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1). Their curvilinear form and close parallel setting may suggest medieval strip lynchets. The lynchets lie to the southeast of another series of lynchets (MDO38562). The lynchets are clearer on aerial photographs taken in the 1970s (2) and are still visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (3), despite some modern boundary removal in this area. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
