Summary

A series of slight hollows and scarps are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948 to the north west of Higher Coombe. They range from 20m to 55m long and are considered likely to be the result of post medieval quarrying or possibly semi natural drainage features. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP, the northernmost pit is still visible as slight earthworks on recent Google Earth imagery.

Full Description

A series of slight hollows and scarps are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948 to the north west of Higher Coombe (1). They range from 20m to 55m long and are considered likely to be the result of post medieval quarrying or possibly semi natural drainage features. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP, the northernmost pit is still visible as slight earthworks on recent Google Earth imagery (2).
