Full Description
A linear scarp is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948 to the north west of Coney's Castle hillfort (1). The feature is 220m long and marked as Old Gravel Pit on the OS 1st edition map. This is an area prone to natural slumping due to the underlying mudstone geology, it is therefore uncertain as to what extent this feature is natural or man-made. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP, it is still visible under scrub vegetation on recent digital aerial photographs (2).
