Monument record MDO38868 - Possible post medieval extractive pit, Higher Park Farm, Broadwindsor

A possible post medieval extractive pit to the south of Higher Park Farm, Broadwindsor, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s and on the latest Lidar imagery. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

A possible post medieval extractive pit to the south of Higher Park Farm, Broadwindsor, is visible as earthworks around 210m long on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1) and on the latest Lidar imagery (2). The site may be partly shown on the OS 1st Edition map (3) but is not marked as a quarry, despite being in an area of old chalk pits and quarries and may be partially or wholly natural in origin. Aerial photographs taken in 1947 (1) and 1971 (4) show the area of possible quarrying as partly wooded and potentially extending under an historic boundary shown on the OS 1st Edition map (3). The site is showing as partially converted to ponds on the latest Google Earth imagery (5). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
