Full Description

Three units of narrow ridge and furrow are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948 to the south east of Valehouse Farm (3). The spacing between the ridges is 4m so too wide for modern ploughing but much narrower than medieval ridge and furrow; the features may therefore be the result of post medieval cultivation although later 20th century ploughing is possible. The features are associated with banked field boundaries. The features have been plough-levelled and no longer visible on recent Google Earth imagery (2). They were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP. Later drainage ditches appear to overlie the field boundaries, these are clearly visible as cropmarks in 2010 (3) and were not plotted.
