Full Description
A banked enclosure on East Parley Common is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The banked enclosure is slightly ovoid in shape and measures around 12.8m long by 6.3m wide. It may be one of a series of earthworks on East Parley Common that appear to be associated with wartime military activity on the heathland north of Christchurch. Alternatively it may be a medieval or post medieval horticultural enclosure, possibly a medieval bee garden.
The site is no longer visible by 1947 (2) and is within a field under plough by 1962 (3). The site lies below aa modern trackway associated with a solar farm by 2002 (4) and is no longer visible on current Google Earth imagery.
The enclosure was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
