Full Description
An area of possible post medieval or early 20th century drainage or cultivation to the south of Week Common is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The rather unusual features comprise what appear to be broadly parallel raised ridges of earth and incised ditches, close-set together and aligned along the slope of the land towards the river valley floor. The 1st Edition map shows this as an area of marshland (2).
The features are still visible on an aerial photograph of 1957, although beginning to scrub over in areas (3) .
The site is under trees and scrub on current Google Earth imagery but some ridges and ditches remain faintly visible in clearer areas (4). The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
