Full Description
An area of historic orchard to the west of Hurn Court is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The orchard is not shown on the OS 1st Edition map but an aerial photograph of 1946 suggests the orchard is shrunken in size and possibly falling into disuse by this time (1). Plantation ridges are also faintly visible across the field enclosure in which the orchard is sited on current Lidar imagery (2). This could indicate a short-lived late 19th century to early 20th century orchard, or an older medieval to post medieval orchard that was already falling into disuse by the late 19th century.
Recent Google Earth imagery indicates that the field containing the former orchard has seen intermittent ploughing and the features are no longer visible on current Google Earth imagery (3). The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
