Full Description
An undated inhumation burial was found at ST 77570349 between Hilton and Ansty Cross and reported by Mr Cowley. The head of a crouched, adult burial had been cut off by a machine digging a reservoir. The body had been laid on its left side facing east. There was no trace of grave goods. The area in the immediate vicinity of the grave was examined with negative results and no other graves were noticed during the excavation of a very large area. <1>

‘An Undated Inhumation Burial found at Hilton.
Mr C. J. Bailey contributes the following note. “An inhumation found att his point (ST 77570349) between Hilton and Ansty Cross was reported by the engineer, Mr Cowley, who gave permaisison for investigation by E. Flatters and the writer. The head of a crouched, adult burial had been cut off by the machine digging the reservoir. The body had been laid on its left side facing the east. There was no trace of grave-goods. The area in the immediate vicinity of the grave was examined with negative results and no other graves were noticed during the excavation of the very large area.”
