Summary

A series of ditched and banked earthworks on Town Common and to the east of St Catherine`s Hill are visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are probably early 20th century military slit trenches and earthworks. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.

Full Description

A series of ditched and banked earthworks on Town Common and to the east of St Catherine`s Hill are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The features are probably early 20th century military slit trenches and earthworks and may form part of a wider area of early 20th century military activity on the heathland north of Christchurch.

The area is scrubby heathland on current Google Earth imagery and the earthworks are not visible.

The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
