Full Description
A series of post medieval extractive pits on the south eastern slopes of Blackwater Hill are visible on 1940s and 50s aerial photographs (1 and 2). The pits are typically around 2.5 to 3m in size and posititioned on the upper slopes in groups or lines of two or more. The features may be post medieval extractive pits but alternatively may be military in origin, possibly weapons pits.
The site is under low heathland scrub and the features are not visible on a 2014 vertical aerial photograph (3).
The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
