Full Description

An extensive rectilinear field system is visible to the northeast of Gussage All Saints, on current Lidar imagery (1). The rectilinear form of the banked boundaries and enclosures suggest a late Iron Age to Romano-British origin. The features overlie a banjo enclosure and field system (MDO32395 and 32402) at their southwest extent, indicating that they post-date these. The banked earthworks extend from the northeast side of Gusage All Saints for a distance of around 1330m. They are contained by Harley Lane to the west and Custard Hill to the east, extending beyond a large curvilinear enclosure of probable medieval origin to the northeast of Gussage All Saints and aligned broadly SSW to NNE - against the historic field pattern, which is more SW to NE aligned.

The features are located within modern cropping fields and may be vulnerable to ploughing. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
