Please read our .

Summary

Wall footings and a cobbled floor excavated in 1996 in advance of construction of the A35 Tolpuddle to Puddletown Bypass. Identified as the two westernmost buildings of Downton Farm. Documentary research traced the farm back to the 17th century, and it is thought likely to be of late medieval origin. The rest of the farmstead is covered by the embankment of the bypass.
