Monument record MDO40152 - Historic trackways, Knowlton, Woodlands, Wimborne St Giles

A series of ditched linear features at Knowlton are visible on aerial photographs of the 1990s and 2005. The features run between and overlie the Bronze Age Knowlton Barrow Group. The features may represent sections of trackways of medieval or post medieval origin, although an earlier date is also possible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

A series of narrow ditched linear features at Knowlton are visible on aerial photographs of the 1990s and 2005 (1-3). Some of the features are also visible on a 1954 aerial photograph (4).

The linear features run between and over features associated with the Knowlton Barrow Group and crosswise to a series of parallel and perpendicular linears considered to represent a field system and trackways of probable prehistoric origin (MDO40151). It is probable these narrower linears represent trackways of medieval or post medieval date, although an earlier origin is also possible.

The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
