Full Description
Substantial banked and ditched earthworks to the west of St Giles's Park are visible on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Lidar imagery (1 and 2).
The earthworks are situated in a field to the west of St Giles's House and comprise a series of linear banks and ditches broadly aligned on adjacent historic field boundaries and forming a series of rectilinear enclosures. The features are presumed to be boundary banks of probable post medieval date, although a medieval origin is also possible. They may be associated with post medieval garden landscaping at St Giles's Park but could alternatively be associated with the medieval manor and estate.
A boundary bank recorded under MDO6278 may be part of this site.
The features are within a cropping field on a 2014 aerial photograph (3). They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
