Full Description
Ditched and banked linear and curvilinear features at Purewell are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise a long banked north-south aligned linear running parallel with a historic field boundary to the east. At the north end is a banked curvilinear feature whilst to the east are a series of shorter ditched and banked perpendicular linears extending east as far as the historic field boundary. The features may represent historic field boundaries and/or drainage features of probable post medieval date, although an agricultural origin for these is also possible.
The long banked linear is still faintly visible on current Google Earth imagery but the shorter ditched features are not visible. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
