Full Description
Ditched and banked linear earthworks on the Avon river floodplain at Christchurch are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features are narrow and broadly rectilinear in form and are presumed to be historic field boundary of probable post medieval date, although an earlier origin is possible; two linears associated with an area of possible historic cultivation marks or drainage ditches (MDO40541) appear to underlie later boundaries, indicating a possible phasing of enclosure in this area.
The features are still visible on current Google Earth imagery. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
