Full Description
A modern water tank on the corner of Ken Road and Seafield Road, Bournemouth, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature comprises a hollow rectilinear structure 13.8m long by 10.8m wide with 0.5m wide outer walls and sloping grassed banks 4-5m deep at each end and around 1.6m deep on each side. It is presumed to be a wartime water storage facility for use in the case of air raids and incendiary fires. The site was redeveloped as housing by 1957 (2).
The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
