Full Description
<1> Lovell, J, 1997, 11Kv Cable Trench, Ranston, Dorset. Archaeological Watching Brief (Unpublished document). SDO13136.
‘3.1.2 A small pit was observed in the east-facing trench section, c. 55m from the southern end of the cable route (Fig. 1). This pit was c. 0.65m in diameter and 0.3m deep, with moderate to steep, concave sides and a rounded base. A second, less well-defined feature (0.35m wide and 0.32m deep), was located 0.56m to the south of the pit. Its irregular profile and disturbed fill are more indicative of animal burrowing activity. To the north of these features, a pair of north/south aligned field drains were recorded. …
4.1 Although the cable trench was located in close proximity to sites of known archaeological importance, only a single undated pit was observed during the course of the watching brief.’
