Full Description
A modern water tank on the northeast side of Cranleigh Road, Bournemouth, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature comprises a hollow square structure 13.2m wide with 0.8m wide outer walls.
The feature is situated within a raised 29.3m by 22.6m grassed plot in the southeast corner of a larger square grassed area in the centre ofa quadrangle of streets, with Cranleigh Road the southernmost of these. It is presumed to be a wartime water storage facility for use in the case of air raids and incendiary fires. The site was demolished and under grass by 1960 (2).
The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
