Full Description
A cluster of three sub-circular ditched features on the Avon floodplain to the southwest of Jumpers Common are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise three shallow sub-circular and sub-oval scarped depressions between 11m and 17.5m wide and 19m and 24m long. The features appear faded and old in a 1945 aerial photograph (1). They are situated around 35m to the west of another group of three features thought to be possible 20th century bomb craters (MDO40953); these appearing relatively fresh in the same aerial photograph of 1945 (1).
It is possible the features are post medieval extractive pit, although alternatively they could also be bomb craters that are earlier in date than those recorded under MDO40593.
The site is within the golf course on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
