Summary

Low earthwork scarps are visible on lidar imagery to the south of New Town, Witchampton. They are possibly the remains of medieval or later field boundaries or settlement earthworks amd were digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP. New Town was established in the late eighteenth century to accommodate people displaced when a landscape park was created at Crichel.

Full Description

New Town was established in the second half of the 18th century to accomodate the inhabitants of Moor Crichel, displaced in the making of Crichel Park. Only one of the original buildings is thought to survive. <1>
