Full Description
A series of ditched linear features to the northeast of Cottage Farm, Colehill, are visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (1 and 2).
The features are aligned north to south within a historic enclosure of possible medieval origin. They are predominantly regular in form, with one more curvilinear feature at the western edge. The features are set broadly parallel around 20m apart, with one division sub-divided by a shorter linear at its southern end. The features are considered to be possible field boundaries of potentially medieval date, perhaps evidence for an area of relict medieval strip field. Alternatively they may be agricultural features of post medieval or modern origin.
The features are faintly visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1), with some still clearly visible on a 2002 vertical aerial photograph (2). They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
