Full Description
Deeply incised ditched linear features to the northwest of Long Lane Farm, Holt , are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise a series of narrow interlinking ditched linears and shorter angular linears extending across two historic enclosures recorded on the OS 1st Edition map (2). The features are considered most likely to be part of a post medieval drainage system but may also include historic trackways and/or field boundaries of medieval to post medieval date.
The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery, although there has been boundary changes and changes in agricultural use since 1946 (1). Some features are still visble in the westernmost of the two fields in 2005 (3). Generally the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
