Full Description
A banked and ditched curvilinear feature in a field to the north of High Hall is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature comprises two external curvilinear 3m wide banks and an inner 1.8m wide ditch. The feature is very low and shallow and curves from southwest to northeast across the breadth of an irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, between High Hall Copse in the west and the River Allan in the east (1 and 2). The curving line of the feature is echoed by a historic trackway and section of lane 170m to the south. The feature may be a field boundary or trackway (posibly a former hollow way) of possible medieval date, potentially marking the division between areas of former medieval strip field.
The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is very faintly visible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
