Summary

A small shallow sub-oval depression in a field to the east of Pig Oak is visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature is recorded on the OS 1st Edition map where it may be a small post medieval enclosure or possibly an extractive pit. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

A small shallow sub-oval depression in a field to the east of Pig Oak is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The feature is 15m long by up to 12m wide and is situated adjacent to the western edge of a historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map. The feature is shown as a small rectangular enclosure projecting eastwards into the field (2). The feature may be a small post medieval enclosure but may alternatively be a small post medieval extractive pit.

The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery. The feature is partially visible, projecting from under a clump of trees against the field boundary. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
