Full Description
Ditched linear features to the east of Woodcutts Farm Cottages are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features are faint and poorly defined but appear to comprise three narrow slightly curvilinear ditches, two north to south aligned linears running parallel to each other 95m apart and one perpendicular linear crossing the other two. The features are located within a large irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and whose curvilinear boundaries are likely to be predominantly medieval in origin (2). One of the ditches runs south from a junction between two of the historic enclosure boundaries; the other north-south aligned linear spans the width of the enclosure.
The features are considered likely to be historic field boundaries of probable post medieval date, although an earlier origin is possible..
The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery but the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
