Full Description

An area of ridged and ditched cultivation to the north of Leigh Road, Wimborne Minster, is faintly visible on aerial photographs (1).

The features comprise parallel ridges set around 4.5m apart with 1.5m wide ditches in between. The features are aligned north to south but their extent is not clear and they are very faint and poorly defined.

The features occupy a large area of open ground in 1946 that could potentially be part of a former medieval open field (and see MDO41043). They are presumed to be historic cultivation marks, possibly those of medieval ridge and furrow.

The site is developed as housing on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
