Summary

Traces of two strip lynchets, part of the medieval open field system of the parish, and recorded as being visible as faint earthworks. The record for this monument has been enhanced with support from Wessex Water.

Full Description

Traces of 'Celtic' fields are visible north of Everley Coppice around ST 872 118 and north east of Everley Farm (ST 871 118) are faint traces of two medieval strip lynchets.

No distinct traces on RAF air photographs. <1-3>

Note: MDO4106 only represents the strip lynchet part of UID 206200. The Celtic fields element of UID 206200 is represented by MDO4111.

Nothing is known of the open fields of the parish although it has been suggested that there once was a two-field system, Dorset Procs., LXIX (1947), 48); about 40 acres of strip lynchets and ridge-and-furrow remain. N.E. of Everley Farm (871118) are faint traces of two strip lynchets...’
