Full Description
Banked and ditched linear features at Little Canford are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise some sections of broad, slightly curvilinear banks; two of these are marked by rows of dispersed trees on the OS 1st Edition map (2). In addition therre are a number of narrow curvilinear ditched features which correspond with these banked linears and form several small enclosures within the larger historic enclosures indicated on the OS 1st Edition map (1 and 2).
The features are considered likely to be historic field boundaries of possible medieval date, although a later origin for some is also possible. Some features may alternatively be post medieval trackways.
The site is is largely still open ground on current Google Earth imagery, although it is now dissected by Ham Lane; the B3073. In open ground the features remain visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
