Monument record MDO41103 - Post medieval narrow ridge and furrow, Ashington, Poole

An area of ridged and ditched cultivation marks to the northwest of Ashington is visible on aerial photographs. The features may be those of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow, although an earlier origin is also possible.They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

An area of ridged and ditched cultivation marks to the northwest of Ashington is visible on aerial photographs (1 and 2).

The features comprise parallel ridges set around 4.5m apart with 1.2m wide ditches in between. They occupy the southern part of a long narrow historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map (2).

The features may be those of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow, although they may alternatively be cultivation marks of earlier origin.

The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery. The features are still visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
