Full Description

An irregular ditched feature on the southwest side of Broadstone Golf Course is visible on aerial photographs and on current Lidar imagery (1 and 2).

The feature comprises a shallow irregular depression up to around 6.3m long by 6.4m wide. It is one of many small individual extractive pits and larger areas of shallow extraction dispersed across this part of the Dorset heathland and is probably post medieval to perhaps early 20th century in origin.

The site is still part of Broadstone Golf Course on current Google Earth imagery but under low scrubby vegetation. The feature is not obviously visible but is still faintly identifiable on current Lidar imagery (2).

The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
