Summary

A series of interlinking ditched linear features to the north and northeast of Bear Wood are visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are presumed to be part of a post medieval drainage system, with some features possibly dually functioning as post medieval field boundaries. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

A series of interlinking ditched linear features to the north and northeast of Bear Wood are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features comprise short linear ditches that link into larger drainage channels shown on the OS 1st Edition map, some of which are still in use (2). They are presumed to be part of a post medieval drainage system, with some features possibly dually functioning as post medieval field boundaries.

The site is largely under trees on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible.They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
