Full Description
An area of ditched and ridged cultivation marks on the east side of Stapehill Road is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features are situated within the southern half of a small irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, whose sinuous boundaries are likely to be medieval in origin (2). The features are bounded on their east and north sides by former historic field boundaries (MDO41294) of possible post medieval date, although an earlier origin for the northern boundary is possible. A probable post medieval field boundary also appears to cut the features from south to north.
The features comprise parallel ridges around 3.5m wide with 1m wide ditches in between and may be cultivation marks of post medieval date, possibly those of narrow ridge and furrow.
The site is under trees but appears to be under new use on current Google Earth imagery. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
