Summary

A large post medieval extractive pit on the north side of Pompey's Lane is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery. A smaller extractive pit at this location is shown but not named on the OS 1st Edition map. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

A large post medieval extractive pit on the north side of Pompey's Lane is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (1 and 2).

The area of extraction extends to 218m by 82m, with two deeper scarped depressions at the eastern end of this; the easternmost of these is shown but not named on the OS 1st Edition map (3).

The site is under trees on current Google Earth imagery. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
