Full Description
Ditched linear features at Longham are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1 and 2).
The features comprise a series of interlinking ditches extending across a number of historic enclosures recorded on the OS 1st Edition map (2). The features are also closely associated with large historic drainage ditches, also recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and which form part of the pattern of historic enclosure (3). The features are presumed to be part of post medieval drainage ditches which form part of a wider drainage system. Some features may also have dually functioned as historic field boundaries (and see MDO41334 and 41336).
The site is part of Dudsbury Golf Course on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted from 1940s aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
