Full Description

Ditched linear features at Longham are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1 and 2).

The features are narrow and rectilinear in form and they sub-divide historic enclosures rec orded on the OS 1st Edition map, whose combination of irregular and regular field boundaries indicate a probable medieval origin with later post medieval alteration (3). The features are presumed to also be historic field boundaries, their regular retilinear character indicating a probable post medieval origin.

The site is under Longham Lakes on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted from 1940s aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
