Monument record MDO41375 - Post medieval gravel pit, Parley, West Parley

An irregular scarped feature at Parley is visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature is presumed to be a post medieval gravel pit; it is recorded as an 'old gravel pit' on the OS 1st Edition map. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

The feature comprises a shallow irregular 37.6m by 21.9m depression, the south side of which is probably truncated by later housing (1). It is recorded as an 'old gravel pit' on the OS 1st Edition map (2).

The site is completely under housing on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted from aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
