Full Description
The earthworks of a field ystem of probable medieval date is visible to the northeast of Sturminster Marshall is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise ditched and banked field boundaries clearly respected by areas of ridged and ditched cultivation; probably medieval ridge and furrow. Some of the field boundaries are contiguous to additional ditched linear features considered likely to be later, probably post medieval, drainage ditches.
The site is still open fields on current Google Earth imagery and many of the features remain visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
