Full Description
An area of narrow ridged and ditched cultivation marks to the northeast of Corfe Mullen are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise regular parallel ridges set approximately 4m apart with 1m wide ditches in between. They occupy the majority of a large irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map; they may extend into the far eastern section but are not visible, possibly due to waterlogged soils (1). The features are indistinct but they appear to overlie posible field boundaries of potentially medieval origin (MDO41490).
The features are presumed to be those of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow.
The site is still open fields on current Google Earth imagery. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
