Full Description
Linear banks and scarps to the southeast of Lambs' Green, Corfe Mullen, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (1-2).
The features comprise three teardrop-shaped mounds situated adjacent to each other in the southwest corner of a field next to the line of the Bournemouth Junction Branch railway. The field was probably cut by the construction of the railway and it is likely the features post-date it. The features are recorded but not named on the OS 1st Edition map, which also shows an area of spoil or embankment adjacent to the north side of the railway to the southeast, still visible on current Lidar imagery (2-3).
The features are presumed to be spoil heaps and possibly finger dumps of post medieval date; possibly associated with the construction of the railway.
The features were digitally plotted from aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
