Monument record MDO41575 - Historic field boundary, Rushcombe Bottom, Corfe Mullen

A banked linear feature at Rushcombe Bottom, Corfe Mullen, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature is presumed to be a historic field boundary, possibly of medieval date, although a later origin is also possible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

The feature is narrow and slightly sinous in form and extends soueast froma historic field boundary recorded on the Os 1st Edition map immediately adjacent to the northwest (2). The character of adjacent historic boundaries and the irregular enclosures they create suggest enclosure of probable medieval origin, probably with some later post medieval expansion onto the higher ground of Barrow Hill to the northwest (2).

The feature is presumed to also be a historic field boundary, possibly of medieval date, although a later origin is also possible.

The site is under trees on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
